Frontend Interview Questions by Experience Level
What gets tested shifts with experience. Prepare for your level — going too shallow or too deep both hurt.
0–2 years
Fundamentals depth: JavaScript (scope, closures, this, event loop, promises), React basics (components, props, state, hooks), HTML/CSS (box model, Flexbox, Grid). Expect output questions and small machine-coding tasks (counter, tabs, modal). You execute well-defined problems cleanly.
2–5 years and beyond
At 2–5 years: deeper React (rendering, performance, patterns), harder machine coding (autocomplete, infinite scroll), and the first frontend system-design rounds. At 5+: you own systems — expect architecture, trade-off reasoning, performance at scale, mentoring signals, and end-to-end design discussions.

- What changes most with experience?
- The weight shifts from 'do you know it' to 'can you design and reason about it'. System design and trade-off discussions grow; raw trivia shrinks.
- Can I skip fundamentals as a senior?
- No — seniors are still expected to explain the fundamentals crisply. But you'll spend more time on design and judgement.
